December 22nd the day of the Anniversary of the Creation of Rondônia, and celebrates the founding of the state of Rondônia, located in the North of Brazil. On this day, in 1981, Complementary Law nº 41 was enacted, which created the state, separating it from the state of Goiás, at the time. Rondônia, initially, was a part of the former state of the Federal Territory of Guaporé, which was established in 1943. The change to Rondônia occurred due to population growth and the need for more effective administration in the region. The state's name pays homage to Marshal Cândido Rondon, who was an important pioneer and defender of the rights of indigenous peoples and played a fundamental role in the integration of the Amazon with the rest of Brazil.
