December 21st Athlete's Day, and celebrates the efforts of people dedicated to sport, whether as a hobby or to maintain their health
The term "athlete" originates from the Greek word "athletes," which derives from "aethos," meaning effort. Athletes have a long history, dating back to ancient Greece and Rome, where sporting competitions took place, such as the Olympics, which bring together the best athletes in the world every four years. Brazil hosted the Summer Olympic Games for the first time in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro. National Athlete's Day was established by former president Jânio Quadros through Decree No. 51,165, on August 8, 1961, to honor Brazilian athletes who represent the country with commitment and dedication in international competitions.
