December 19th is the day of Saint Nemesius
December 19th is the day of Saint Nemesius and is a saint venerated in the Christian tradition, especially by the Catholic Church. Considered a martyr of the early Church, his life is little documented, but he is known for his resistance and faith during religious persecution. He is often remembered for his devotion, even under threat of death. Saint Nemesius lived in Egypt in the 3rd century and was persecuted by Emperor Decius, who led a violent campaign against Christians. In Alexandria, he was tortured and burned alive, alongside other martyrs who faced severe suffering. Many Christians, out of fear, surrendered to the authorities or were denounced, while others, firm in their faith, endured torture and bore witness to Christ. Fear of persecution led many to take refuge in the deserts and mountains of Egypt, where many starved or were killed.
