December 11 day of APAEs in Brazil. This day is dedicated to honoring and promoting the work of the Exceptional Country and Friends Associations (APAEs), which do not support, including and assist people with intellectual and multiple disabilities. As APAEs play a fundamental role in the development of educational, health and even social inclusion programs, offering support to families and defending the rights of people with disabilities in their communities. The APAEs were founded in Brazil in 1954, when the first association arose in Rio de Janeiro. From that day on, the movement expanded to various states, creating a national network that became a reference in support and support of people. Today, the National Federation of APAEs (Fenapaes) coordinates thousands of units in the country, which are only administered by volunteers and professionals in the area of health, social assistance and education.
