December 10th is Sociologists' Day in Brazil. This date was chosen in 2009 to honor the regulation of the profession, which occurred in 1980, by Law No. 6.888. Before that, the date was celebrated on May 29th. A sociologist is a professional with a degree in Sociology who studies social, political, cultural and economic groups, aiming to understand the organization of society and social phenomena. Sociologists analyze social reality and produce diagnoses that help in the development of public policies. One of the great names in sociology, Zygmunt Bauman, in his book “What is sociology for?”, highlights that the vocation of a sociologist is to guide in a world in constant change, observing transformations and their consequences. Thus, the profession is fundamental for the understanding of different cultures and social dynamics.
