This date marks a significant milestone in global history, as it symbolizes the international commitment to the protection and promotion of the fundamental rights of all human beings, regardless of their race, color, sex, religion, political opinion or origin. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was a direct response to the atrocities of World War II, and its purpose was to establish a common standard of treatment for all. The document includes 30 articles that detail the essential rights and freedoms that must be guaranteed to all individuals.
