The date was chosen in memory of the creation of the Brazilian Pedicurist Association (ABP) in 1964, in São Paulo. Although often confused with a pedicurist, a podiatrist specializes in clinical care, such as removing calluses and treating ingrown toenails. In 1965, the term "pedicuro" was replaced by "podiatrist" to clarify this distinction. Podiatrists are essential for general health, as foot problems can signal more serious conditions in other parts of the body.
