November 27th, Brazil 's Breast Cancer
November 27th, Brazil 's Breast Cancer Day, was established by Law No. 12,116/2009 to raise awareness about the disease, its treatment and prevention. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in Brazil, with approximately 66,280 new cases estimated for 2020. Although it is more common in women, it can also affect men. The main risk factors include advanced age, genetics, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and alcohol consumption. Initial signs may be painless lumps and changes in the skin or nipple. Early detection is crucial, with mammograms recommended from the age of 50. Adopting healthy habits can prevent up to 30% of cases. The day highlights the importance of awareness, early diagnosis and support for patients in the fight against breast cancer.
