November 24th is the day of the Auxiliary Officers' Corps (QAO) , in honor of the birth of its patron, Lieutenant Antônio João Ribeiro, hero of the War of the Triple Alliance. The date recognizes military personnel who, after a long career, rise to the rank of officer through merit. Created by Presidential Decree No. 84,333 in 1979, the QAO recognizes sergeants and warrant officers who stand out in the Army. The QAO operates in areas such as administration, health and logistics. Lieutenant Antônio João Ribeiro is remembered for his bravery in 1864, when, together with his 13 men, he faced 365 enemies, sacrificing himself in defense of Brazil.
