November 25th is the feast day of Saint Catherine of Alexandria
November 25th is the feast day of Saint Catherine of Alexandria , one of the most venerated saints in Christianity. Born in the 4th century, she stood out as a philosopher and defender of the Christian faith, converting many to Christianity. After refusing to renounce her faith, she was arrested and martyred, symbolizing courage and faith. Celebrations include masses and processions, especially in Portugal and Brazil, where there are also folk traditions, such as festivals and typical recipes. Saint Catherine is the patron saint of students, philosophers and teachers and became known for her eloquence in trying to convince Emperor Maximinus Daia to stop the persecution of Christians. When she was sentenced to death, miraculously, the torture wheel (an instrument of torture that mutilated and caused great suffering) broke. Finally, Catherine was beheaded at the age of 18, and her remains were found centuries later by monks.
