November 19th is Flag
November 19th is Flag Day in Brazil. The date was created to honor the greatest symbol of the Brazilian nation, the national flag. It was officially adopted on November 19th, 1889, a few days after the Proclamation of the Republic, when Brazil ceased to be an empire and became a federative republic. The origin of this date is directly linked to the change in Brazil's political regime. With the proclamation of the Republic on November 15th, 1889, the imperial flag, which represented the monarchical regime, was replaced by the republican flag. The new flag was inspired by the colors of the flag of the Empire of Brazil, but now includes the blue circle with stars, which represent the sky seen from Rio de Janeiro on the day of the proclamation and the division of the Brazilian states.
