November 18th is Islamic Art
November 18th is Islamic Art Day. It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2019 with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of Islamic artistic and cultural heritage, as well as promoting intercultural understanding and dialogue between different civilizations. Islamic art encompasses a vast range of artistic expressions developed in cultures influenced by Islam, ranging from architecture, calligraphy, ceramics, tapestries, painting and much more, over centuries and in different regions of the world. This date was chosen to highlight the aesthetic and historical richness of Islam, which transcends borders and religions, promoting values of beauty, spirituality and cultural identity.
