November 19 is Men
November 19 is Men 's Day, with the aim of promoting men's health, discussing gender equality issues, and recognizing the positive role men play in their communities and families. The day aims to raise awareness of health issues that affect men, such as heart disease and depression, and also seeks to reduce harmful stereotypes. The celebration was started in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, choosing this date because it coincides with his father's birthday and a major sporting event. Although not officially recognized by the UN, the date is celebrated in more than 40 countries, including Brazil (July 15) and others such as Australia, India, the United States and the United Kingdom.
