November 12th is Pneumonia
November 12th is Pneumonia Day. This date was created in 2009 by the Coalition Against Childhood Pneumonia, with the aim of raising awareness about pneumonia, its causes, prevention methods and treatments. The campaign seeks to raise awareness in society and governments about the importance of combating this disease, which is one of the main causes of infant death in the world, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Pneumonia is a respiratory infection that affects the lungs and can be caused by several agents, including bacteria, viruses and fungi. It affects people of all ages, but is particularly dangerous for children under five years of age, the elderly and individuals with compromised immune systems. In many cases, pneumonia can be prevented through vaccination and hygiene measures, and is treatable with antibiotics when detected early.
