November 7th is Medical Physics
November 7th is Medical Physics Day and aims to recognize and promote the importance of medical physics in the health field, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The date was established in 2013 by the International Association of Medical Physics (IOMP) to honor the contribution of medical physicists, who use principles and methods of physics for medicine. The choice of November 7th also marks the birthday of physicist Marie Curie, who is famous for her research on radioactivity and for her significant impact on medicine, especially in the treatment of cancer. International Medical Physics Day aims to raise awareness of the role of medical physicists in several areas, such as: Radiotherapy, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiological Protection.
