The Protection of Brazilian Oceans
November 16, Blue Amazon Day, was established by Law No. 13,005 of June 25, 2014. The date is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting Brazil's marine and coastal resources, emphasizing the importance of the Atlantic Ocean, which, together with Brazil's territorial waters, is called the "Blue Amazon". The choice of November 16 is due to the idea that, just as the terrestrial Amazon is vital for biodiversity and environmental balance, the Blue Amazon is crucial for the country's marine life, economy, and food security. Brazil has the largest stretch of coastline in the South Atlantic, and the preservation of its marine ecosystems is essential for biodiversity and the health of the planet.
