November 4th is Favela
November 4th is Favela Day, and it is a date that aims to recognize and value favela communities, as well as their cultures and their contributions to society. The origin of the celebration dates back to 2001, when the first edition of the event was held by the National Union of Favela Residents' Associations (UNAMAF) and the National Favela Movement. The objective of Favela Day is to promote the visibility of favelas and their realities, often associated with stigmas and prejudices. The date seeks to encourage reflection on the importance of favelas in the formation of Brazilian cultural identity and to highlight the struggles and achievements of the residents of these spaces.
