November 14th is Diabetes
November 14th is Diabetes Day and aims to raise awareness about diabetes, its causes, symptoms, and ways to prevent and treat it. This date was chosen in honor of the birthday of Frederick Banting, who, together with Charles Best, discovered insulin in 1921, a fundamental milestone in the treatment of type 1 diabetes. The first celebration of World Diabetes Day took place in 1991, when the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) joined forces to create a global movement in response to the alarming increase in the number of diabetes cases worldwide. Since then, the date has been marked by activities and campaigns that aim to inform and educate the population about the disease, its complications, and the importance of early diagnosis.
