Education, Culture and Global Cooperation
November 4 is UNESCO Day, marking the date on which the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was officially established in 1946. UNESCO was founded in the aftermath of World War II, a time when there was a great need to promote peace, reconstruction and international cooperation. During a conference in London in November 1945, representatives from 37 countries decided to create an organization that would address cultural, scientific and educational issues, with the intention of helping to prevent future conflicts. On November 4, 1946, the UNESCO Constitution came into force after being ratified by 20 countries, officially marking the beginning of its activities.
