Saint Peter of Alcantara is recognized for his profound mystical experiences and for the reform he helped implement in the Franciscan Order. His spirituality inspired important figures, such as Saint Teresa of Ávila, with whom he had a relationship of friendship and support in the reform of Carmel. He was canonized in 1669 by Pope Clement IX.
