October 15 is Rural Women
October 15 is Rural Women 's Day. This date was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007 as part of an effort to raise the profile of women living in rural areas and recognize their significant contributions to agriculture, food security and sustainable development. It arose from the need to address the specific issues affecting women living in rural areas, who often face unique challenges such as limited access to resources, health services, education and employment opportunities. Rural women play a vital role in local economies and in sustaining rural life, but are often overlooked in the policies and programs that affect their lives.
