National Water Day is celebrated in Portugal on October 1st
National Water Day is celebrated in Portugal on October 1st , marking the beginning of the hydrological cycle. Since 1983, the date has sought to raise awareness about the social, environmental and economic importance of water, promoting its sustainable use. Even with World Water Day on March 22nd, Portugal maintains this date to reflect on the scarcity and challenges brought about by climate change. Activities such as colloquia and visits to treatment plants take place on this day. The country faces the challenge of balancing growing demand with decreasing water availability, encouraging reuse and efficient consumption.
