The International Day of Older Persons
The International Day of Older Persons is celebrated on October 1st each year. The date was established by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14th, 1990, through Resolution 45/106, and celebrated for the first time on October 1st, 1991. The main objective is to raise awareness in society about issues that affect older people, such as their rights, well-being and appreciation. This day also seeks to promote awareness about the challenges of aging and encourage policies that ensure dignity, inclusion and quality of life for this population. In many countries, the date is marked by events and campaigns that highlight the importance of protection, health, social inclusion and combating age discrimination, promoting active and healthy aging.
