The name of the team is an allusion to the Dutch navigators, who were on the beach of the same name in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, in the first half of the 17th century. In French, these people were called flamandes, flamingos. They lived in the region of Flanders, which at the time included part of France, the Netherlands and Belgium.
