History of Rodrigo Caldeira - Viseu, Portugal
Yoda's look was inspired by the famous physicist Albert Einstein. Stuart Freeborn, special effects supervisor on The Empire Strikes Back, used his own appearance and that of the scientist to create the figure. However, George Lucas's first idea for Yoda was for him to be played by an ape in a mask carrying a staff. In Episode II, it was the first time that audiences saw Yoda using – and fighting with – a lightsaber, something that the puppet used in the first films did not allow.
