Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's song "If You Leave", performed prominently during the emotional final scene, became a major international hit. Student Andie Walsh (Molly Ringwald) is a poor girl who studies at a rich college, has a crush on a rich boy, one of the preppys at her school, Blane McDonough (Andrew McCarthy). When Andie and Blane try to get together, they are met with resistance from their respective social circles.
