Our Lady of Sorrows Day is celebrated on September 15th
Our Lady of Sorrows Day is celebrated on September 15th . On this date, the Catholic faithful pay homage to the Virgin Mary in their pain over the passion and death of her son, Jesus Christ. Our Lady of Sorrows is represented with seven swords or daggers symbolizing the seven pains she endured throughout her life, according to Christian tradition. These pains include Simeon's prophecy of the future pain she would face, the flight into Egypt, the loss of Jesus for three days during the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Mary's sadness upon finding Jesus carrying the cross, the crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross, among others. It is a day of devotion and reflection for Catholics, marked by religious celebrations and acts of faith around the world.
