April 30 is Jazz Day
April 30 is Jazz Day, a date recognized by UNESCO and the United Nations since 2011. The initiative was initiated by renowned jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, with the aim of highlighting the role of jazz in promoting unity among peoples.
The celebrations include special events around the world, with emphasis on the All-Star Global Concert, which brings together great names in jazz at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The date was established by UNESCO to reinforce the power of music as a tool for peace, intercultural dialogue and diplomacy. Since then, International Jazz Day has gained increasing recognition and has become a global celebration of this rich musical expression.
