International Day Against Nuclear Tests
International Day Against Nuclear Tests is celebrated annually on August 29 . This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2009 to raise awareness of the dangers of nuclear testing and promote action to achieve the goal of a world free of nuclear weapons. The main objective is to urge all countries to refrain from carrying out nuclear tests, whether underground, atmospheric or underwater, and to work towards the ratification and implementation of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which prohibits such tests. The date also serves as an opportunity to honor the victims of nuclear tests and reaffirm the commitment to international peace and security.
