Oda found inspiration in classic global literature to create elements in One Piece. The Navy Prison, "Impel Down", was inspired by Dante Alighieri's Nine Circles of Hell. The villain Doflamingo has connections to Don Quixote of La Mancha, and characters from Greek mythology such as the Amazons and the Gorgons were also included in the story. In addition, Sabo has his look based on the character Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist. These literary influences add depth and interesting references to the world of One Piece... Did you know?
