International Indigenous Peoples
International Indigenous Peoples Day is a date celebrated on August 9th of each year. This observance was established by the United Nations (UN) in 1994, with the aim of promoting and protecting the rights of indigenous peoples around the world. It recognizes the importance of the cultures, traditions, languages and knowledge of indigenous peoples, while also highlighting the challenges and struggles they face, such as defending their lands, natural resources, human rights and preserving their cultural identities. It is an opportunity for indigenous peoples and their allies to highlight their issues and demands, raise awareness about their specific cultures and challenges.
