Porto's Saint Herculaneum Day is on September 5th
Porto's Saint Herculaneum Day is on September 5th . Little is known about him, but he is considered a Christian martyr who lived around 180 AD in Portus Romae, near Ostia, Italy. He was a Roman soldier in charge of escorting Bishop Alexander to martyrdom. Upon witnessing the bishop's faith in the face of torture, Herculaneum converted to Christianity and was beheaded after facing several torments. There are other saints with the name Herculaneum in the Christian calendar, such as a bishop of Brescia on August 12 and a monk bishop of Perugia on November 7, whose stories also involve challenges and trials, but details about their martyrdoms are uncertain.
