Saint Francis Solano , celebrated on July 18 , was a Franciscan friar born in 1549 in Spain, and is remembered for his devotion and missions in Latin America. He was raised in a Christian and noble family, eager to become a missionary. After caring for the sick during a plague epidemic in Spain, he embarked on a mission to evangelize in Latin America in 1589. During his journey, he faced challenges, but his inspiring presence calmed storms and baptized many. For fifteen years, he performed miracles and preached the word of God in different languages, dedicating his last years in Lima, Peru, where he died in 1610. He was canonized in 1726 and is venerated as the patron saint of the indigenous peoples of South America.
