Saint Jerome 's Day is celebrated on September 30th and honors one of the most important saints of the Catholic Church. Saint Jerome lived between 347 and 420 AD. He is known for his notable contribution to the translation of the Bible into Latin, known as the Vulgate, which became the official version of the Bible in the Catholic Church for many centuries. Jerome was a Christian scholar, theologian and monk. In addition to his Bible translation, he wrote extensively on theology and lived an ascetic life as a hermit and monk. He is also famous for a legend in which he removes a thorn from a lion's paw, earning the animal's friendship.
