National Day of the Deaf , celebrated on September 26 , is an occasion to recognize and celebrate deaf culture, as well as promote awareness of the challenges faced by the deaf community. This date coincides with the founding of Gallaudet University, the world's first university for the deaf. During this day, events such as lectures, art exhibitions, theatrical performances and sign language festivals are held to highlight the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of the deaf community and promote inclusion and diversity. National Day of the Deaf also serves as an opportunity to defend the rights and interests of deaf people around the world.
