International Ataxia Day is celebrated on September 25th
International Ataxia Day is celebrated on September 25th . This date was established to raise awareness about ataxia, a group of neurological diseases that affect muscular coordination, causing difficulties with speech, gait and balance. Ataxia can be hereditary or acquired and can arise due to a variety of causes, including genetic mutations, brain injuries, nutritional deficiencies or infections. Hereditary forms of ataxia include Friedreich's Ataxia and several spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA). Awareness about ataxia is crucial to improving early diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for those affected.
