Saint Matthew
Saint Matthew 's Day is a celebration dedicated to Saint Matthew, one of Jesus' twelve apostles and author of one of the four Gospels of the New Testament. Saint Matthew is often referred to as the apostle and evangelist, and is known for his conversion and calling to follow Jesus. It is celebrated on September 21st by the Roman Catholic Church and some other Christian traditions. Before following Jesus, Matthew was a tax collector, a profession despised by the Jews of the time. His call to the apostolate, described in the Gospels, is an example of redemption and transformation, when Jesus invited him to follow him and he promptly responded. He is considered the author of the first Gospel of the New Testament, which highlights the teachings of Jesus and the connection with the prophecies of the Old Testament.
