The Kurá Hulanda Museum in Curaçao, opened in April 1999, is an anthropological museum specializing in the Atlantic slave trade. Created by Jacob Gelt Dekker, the museum occupies 15 restored buildings on Otrobanda's western pier. Focusing on the history from capture in Africa to relocation in the Americas, the museum highlights the cultural heritage of slaves in Curaçao and the Caribbean. It portrays the routine and lives of slaves, showing the changes in the island's population over time. The collection includes photos, paintings, period objects and musical instruments, offering a comprehensive perspective on this sad period in world history, with an emphasis on the relevance of the port of Willemstad as an important slave trading point in South America.
