Before Palestra Itália
Before Palestra Itália, the name of the team had to be changed during the Second World War, since the Getúlio Vargas government prohibited the use of names that had some connection with Germany, Italy and Japan, countries of the Axis. The first attempt was to change it to Palestra de São Paulo, but the authorities were not satisfied and the argument that the word was not of Italian origin, but Greek, meaning “gym or school where physical activities are practiced”, was not enough. The solution was to change to Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.
In 1918, during the Spanish flu epidemic
In 1918, during the Spanish flu epidemic, Palestra transformed its facilities on Rua Líbero Badaró into a hospital for the Red Cross to act in the fight against the disease. With the generous action, the team gained popular support and there was pressure for the club to return to Apea (Associação Paulista de Esportes Atléticos), which it had left because it felt persecuted by the city's elite clubs and by the referees.
The current Allianz Parque
The current Allianz Parque, the Palmeiras arena opened in 2014, was built over the old Antártica Park, with part of the original stands maintained. The stadium has 42,000 covered seats, an amphitheater for up to 18,000 people, a convention center, 160 boxes, 6 lounges and parking for over 2,000 vehicles. Palmeiras bought that land in 1920, with the help of Companhia Matarazzo. The first reform took place in 1933, with the construction of a general stand made of reinforced concrete and the social tribune for club members, and the stadium was renamed Stadium Palestra Itália, at the time.

Opponents usually make the provocation that Palmeiras does not have a world cup. This is because the team has not won the FIFA Club World Cup, which has been held since 2000, nor the Intercontinental Cup, played between 1960 and 2004, considered since 2017 by FIFA as a world title. However, Palmeiras' world title comes from the 1951 Copa Rio, recognized by FIFA as the first club world title in history.
Despite the fact that Palestra Itália
Despite the fact that Palestra Itália was founded on August 26, 1914, the team's first football match only took place on January 24, 1915. Palmeiras has a day to call its own. The "Dia da Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras" is celebrated on September 20, after the law was sanctioned in 2005. The date was chosen because of the "Arrancada Heroica", that is, the day on which "Palestra Itália" played for the first time as " Palmeiras" and was champion of São Paulo.
Since it was created
Since it was created, the Palmeiras crest has changed countless times. But the last significant change took place in 1959, when the traditional “P” decreased in size and eight stars were placed around the shield, in reference to the club’s founding month (August) and the number of São Paulo titles won by the team still as a player. Lecture Italy. Since then, the club's marketing has made some minor changes, but the concept remains the same.

The parakeet is the official mascot of Palmeiras
The parakeet is the official mascot of Palmeiras, as it has great identification with Brazil and is a bird that existed in abundance in Barra Funda. However, over time, the pig became the most popular animal to identify Palmeiras. It was how the São Paulo elite referred to the Italians and descendants who lived in São Paulo, but in a pejorative way. From the 1980s, this changed, especially after Jorginho Putinatti appeared on the cover of Placar magazine with the animal on his lap.
The Palmeiras anthem was composed in 1949 by Antonio Sergi
The Palmeiras anthem was composed in 1949 by Antonio Sergi, who was a musician, but also had another profession: he graduated as a cardiologist from the Escola Paulista de Medicina. In 1946, Palmeirense Ary Mantovani became the only player to score two Olympic goals in the same match. The only problem is that the team lost 6-2 to Portuguesa Santista on that occasion.

In the period in which Palmeiras B existed (from 2000 to 2013), there was a time when the team faced Palmeiras "A". The curious game took place in 2005, for the São Paulo Cup. Ironically, team B wore the green shirt for having had a better campaign in the first phase. But the main team ended up thrashing by 4 to 0. The behavior of the fans (around 3 thousand people) was also fun, with songs like “if Palmeiras doesn't win, hey, hey, hey, the stick will break”.
