Yoga Benefits: Paschimottanasana Pose
The pose known as Paschimottanasana, or “seated forward bend,” involves sitting with the legs extended and leaning the torso forward, bringing the chest or forehead toward the feet. This asana provides a deep stretch for the spine, hamstrings, and shoulders, while also stimulating circulation in the abdominal region.
To practice it correctly, it is important to keep the hips stable, the spine elongated, and the shoulders relaxed. Those with limited flexibility can use supports under the knees or feet. During the pose, it is recommended to breathe deeply and mindfully, keeping the torso steady and focusing attention between the solar plexus and the throat.
Paschimottanasana is recognized for its therapeutic benefits, including relieving lower back tension, easing digestive discomfort, and promoting mental relaxation. In addition to stretching and strengthening the posterior muscles, the practice helps slow down the nervous system, contributing to a sense of physical and emotional balance.
