June Festival in Poland
In Poland, the June festival is known as Noc Świętojańska (St. John's Night) and is especially celebrated in the regions of Pomerania and Kashubia, on June 23. The festivities last all day, starting at 8 am and continuing until dawn.
As in Brazil, traditions involve the use of costumes, but unlike the Brazilian country costumes, the Poles dress up as pirates, giving a unique and festive touch to the celebration. Bonfires are another traditional element of the festival, symbolizing purification and protection from evil spirits.
In major cities such as Warsaw and Krakow, Noc Świętojańska is an official part of the cultural calendar, attracting locals and tourists to take part in celebrations that combine folklore, music and dance.
The event reinforces the sense of community and keeps Poland's cultural roots alive, combining pagan and Christian elements in a celebration that highlights the importance of the summer solstice in the European country.
