April 22
April 22 is Fighter Aviation Day, in honor of one of the most important dates of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). The celebration commemorates the heroic actions of Brazilian pilots during World War II, especially in 1945, when the 1st Fighter Aviation Group carried out 11 combat missions in a single day - a historic and unprecedented feat for the FAB.
These missions took place in northern Italy, as part of the Allied operations against the Axis forces. The Brazilian aviators, flying P-47 Thunderbolt fighters, faced harsh conditions and demonstrated courage, technique and determination, contributing significantly to the advance of the Allied troops in Europe.
The date highlights the professionalism and bravery of FAB fighter pilots, and also pays tribute to all those who serve or have served in this specialty of military aviation. It is a proud day for the Air Force and for Brazil, as it symbolizes the Armed Forces' commitment to defending national sovereignty and world peace.
In FAB units, the day is marked by military ceremonies, aerial demonstrations and tributes to veterans, reinforcing the tradition and legacy of fighter aviation in the country.
