April 22 is the day of the Luso-Brazilian Community
April 22 is the day of the Luso-Brazilian Community, a date that marks the arrival of the Portuguese in the territory we now know as Brazil, in 1500, led by Pedro Álvares Cabral. This day symbolizes the beginning of the historical, cultural, linguistic and emotional ties between Portugal and Brazil, which continue to this day.
The celebration was officially instituted to highlight the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, recognizing the importance of the Portuguese heritage in the formation of Brazilian identity. At the same time, it values the presence and contribution of Brazilians in Portugal, as well as the Portuguese in Brazil.
The date is celebrated by cultural institutions, Portuguese-Brazilian associations, consulates and schools, with events that promote the Portuguese language, gastronomy, music and customs shared between the two peoples.
More than a historical moment, the Day of the Portuguese-Brazilian Community is a symbol of the continuity of a living relationship, which transcends borders and is renewed through cultural exchange, migration and family and emotional ties between Brazilians and Portuguese.
