April 14th is Ambedkar Jayanti
April 14th is Ambedkar Jayanti Day in India, in honor of Dr. BR Ambedkar, a social leader, lawyer and main architect of the Constitution of India. Born in 1891, Ambedkar is a central figure in the fight for the rights of Dalits (lower caste) and social equality in the country. He dedicated his life to fighting discrimination and social oppression, and was an advocate for education, justice and equality for all Indians, regardless of caste, religion or gender.
The day is marked by ceremonies, speeches and educational events, especially in places like Mumbai, where Ambedkar's memorial, the Chaityabhoomi, is located. Ambedkar Jayanti is an opportunity to reflect on the social advances achieved since India's independence, as well as to promote debates on human rights, social inclusion and justice.
Throughout the day, discussions are also held about Ambedkar's legacy and the importance of his work in building a more just and egalitarian society. April 14 is thus a date to honor his memory and continue the fight for an India without discrimination.
