April 10 is Mahavir Jayanti
April 10 is Mahavir Jayanti , one of the holiest days in Jainism, celebrated annually to mark the birth of Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara and main figure of the religion.
On this day, believers perform prayers, fast and acts of charity, as well as processions in Jain temples. It is believed that Mahavira was born around 599 BC, promoting non-violence (ahimsa), truth (satya) and material detachment.
The celebration is most intense in India, especially in states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka, where there are large Jain communities. In addition to religious ceremonies, the day encourages the practice of compassion and harmony.
