April 10th is Military Engineers ' Day in Brazil, in recognition of the essential work of engineers in the Armed Forces and their contribution to the country's security and infrastructure. The date was chosen due to the creation of the first Military Engineering course in Brazil, at the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN), in 1810, marking the beginning of the formal training of this specialization in the military context.
Military engineers play essential roles in several areas, including the construction of fortifications, bridges, roads and military installations, in addition to acting in demining operations, resource management and logistical support. Their performance is also highlighted in situations of calamity, where they are essential in the reconstruction of areas affected by natural disasters, in addition to ensuring the mobility and protection of troops.
Military Engineers' Day is a date to recognize the dedication and importance of this profession for national defense and for the construction of Brazil's strategic infrastructure. During the celebration, the Armed Forces and military educational institutions hold events and activities aimed at valuing this category and its indispensable role in the country's security.
