Easter in France
In the France , the Easter is celebrated with a unique and charming tradition: the legend of the Cloches Volantes (Flying Bells). According to popular belief, on Holy Thursday, church bells “travel” to Rome to receive the Pope’s blessing, falling silent as a sign of mourning for the death of Christ. During this period, the chimes are suspended, creating an atmosphere of reflection and respect.
On Easter Sunday, the bells “return” and ring festively again, symbolizing the joy of Christ’s resurrection. Children are taught that, upon returning from Rome, the bells scatter chocolate eggs throughout the gardens, giving rise to the traditional Easter egg hunt, one of the most anticipated moments for French families.
In addition to the egg hunt, Easter in France is marked by gastronomic delights, such as roast lamb, considered the typical dish of the date. Thus, the celebration combines faith, symbolism and sweetness, keeping alive a tradition passed down from generation to generation.
