Easter in Spain
THE Easter in Spain is celebrated with great devotion and intensity, especially during Holy Week. The streets of many cities are transformed into settings for impressive religious processions, where the faithful dressed in long robes and hoods participate in rituals that date back to the Middle Ages. These costumes are worn by the cofradías (religious brotherhoods) and represent penance and respect, without any connection to other historical meanings.
The processions, which take place in cities such as Seville, Málaga and Valladolid, are marked by sacred images carried on enormous floats, accompanied by the sound of drums and songs. At night, the atmosphere becomes even more exciting, with candles lighting the route and the faithful expressing their faith through prayers and promises.
In addition to the religious aspect, Spanish Holy Week is also a cultural and tourist event, attracting thousands of visitors. Among the gastronomic traditions, torrija, a type of French toast, and cod-based dishes stand out. The celebration unites faith, art and emotion, making Easter in Spain one of the most emblematic in the world.
