April 2nd is Autism Awareness
April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day, a date established by the United Nations (UN) to promote understanding, respect and inclusion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) around the world.
This day seeks to increase knowledge about autism, combat stigma and prejudice, and promote acceptance of people with the disorder. Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, behavior and social interaction, with varying degrees of intensity.
Awareness is essential to ensure that individuals with ASD have access to resources, quality education, and opportunities for a full and inclusive life. Organizations and movements in different parts of the world hold events, lectures and educational activities to raise awareness about the importance of acceptance and support for autistic people.
