March 14 is the day of Saint Matilda
March 14 is the day of Saint Matilda, and is a date dedicated to the celebration of the life and virtues of Saint Matilda, an important historical figure both in the religious context and in the history of medieval Europe.
Saint Matilda was born around 895, the daughter of the Count of Ringelheim, in present-day Germany. She married Henry I, the Little Bird, King of Germany, with whom she had several children, including the future Emperor Otto I. Matilda was a woman of great faith and virtue, known for her generosity, wisdom and dedication to the education and well-being of her people. She founded and supported several convents and monasteries, in addition to being a fervent defender of the Church and Christian morality.
After the death of her husband, Saint Matilda dedicated herself to religious life, distributing her wealth and caring for those most in need. Her exemplary life as a mother, wife and spiritual leader made her one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic Church, especially in northern Europe. She was canonized around the 11th century, and her feast day is celebrated in various parts of the world, especially in countries such as Germany and Belgium.
